Police Investigating Possible Bias-Related Assault At Shopping Center

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – Police in Aurora are investigating a sexual assault that may have been a racially-motivated crime.

Investigators say a woman was attacked Friday morning at the Mission Viejo Plaza Shopping Center near Hampden Avenue and Chambers Road.

“Yeah it’s really scary,” Aurora resident Claire Miller said.

Miller is frightened and angry after the violent attack on a 23-year-old woman.

“You feel less safe. You feel worried for your family. I have daughters that are 18 and 21, so same for them. It makes us all feel vulnerable,” Miller told CBS4’s Tom Mustin.

Early Friday morning, two African-American men sexually assaulted the woman outside the shopping center. Police say the victim, who is white, didn’t know the attackers. During the assault, the men yelled racial slurs at the woman before fleeing the scene.
